Temple Fork Outfitters www.templeforkflyrods.com has taken the fly fishing industry by storm with their awesome—and astoundingly affordable—fly rods and other products. TFO offers a full line of fly rods and a host of spinning gear as well, which is suitable for nearly any fishing application. Need a small trout rod to make a delicate presentation in a mountain trout stream? No problem. Need a rod with serious muscle to land an angry redfish bent on taking you down to Davy Jones’ locker? TFO can hook you up. The festival is also proud to have a huge host of supporting TFO pro-staff members such as Lefty Kreh, Ed Jaworowski, Bob Clouser, Gary Dubiel, Brian Shumaker, as well as TFO rep Steve Monahan. We are especially excited to have TFO owner Rick Pope join us this year. Festival attendees should seriously consider enrolling in a paid casting class with one of these TFO pro-staffers.

Herring Alliance www.herringalliance.org The Herring Alliance is a coalition of environmental organizations working to protect and restore ocean wildlife and ecosystems along the U.S. Atlantic coast through precautionary, science-based management of herring, mackerel, and other forage fish. To realize its mission, the Herring Alliance works to establish ecosystem-based catch limits that leave enough herring, mackerel and other forage species in the ocean for whales, tuna and other marine life that feed on them, to create buffer zones and closed areas to protect juvenile and spawning fish in specific parts of the ocean during critical times of the year, to minimize bycatch and ensure that herring and similar fish are abundant when they are most needed by predators, and to develop a comprehensive monitoring program, including at-sea observers on midwater trawl vessels, to accurately assess the targeted catch and bycatch of depleted river herring, groundfish, and marine mammals.
"We are excited to join this year's Festival as the Conservation Sponsor. The Herring Alliance is dedicated to protecting menhaden, sea herring, river herring, shad and other forage fish that are important food for saltwater and freshwater gamefish like stripers, bluefish, trout and bass . We hope fly-fishermen will get involved and be a part of our efforts to ensure a healthy prey base for all freshwater and marine predators found off our coast," said Peter Baker, Director of the Herring Alliance.

The City of Waynesboro (www.waynesboro.va.us), also known as the “River City,” was recently ranked by Outdoor Life as #171 in the Top 200 Towns for Sportsmen, which listed locales where outdoorsmen might choose to relocate for hunting and fishing opportunities. The article also included statistics like median income levels, home values, and unemployment rates. Waynesboro was the only Virginia town that made this select list! The City of Waynesboro is the festival’s most important sponsor and provides much-needed advertising dollars to reach new festival visitors each year. Although the festival started with only a few hundred regional fly fishers, we now routinely draw thousands of fly anglers from as far as way as the Carolinas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio.
The festival especially appreciates the support of the Waynesboro Police Department, which provides 24-hour security for the festival. Although not evident at first glance (because of all their behind-the-scenes support work), the cheerful and supportive staff of the City of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation Department is also a huge help. These two agencies assist our volunteer staff to pull off the weekend’s festivities with little to no fanfare, but we sure appreciate their help. If you plan on traveling through Virginia this year, please drop by and check out the River City. Be careful, though: Once you experience Waynesboro’s small-town charm—and fishing in the South River, which runs through the middle of town—you might not want to leave.
