Bill Bolin was born in Mississippi, raised in Alabama and has made his home in Virginia since 1969. He is by vocation an ecologist, and avocation an outdoors enthusiast, both of which are clearly evident in his paintings and drawings. He has drawn and painted as long as he can remember, even having some drawings and a story he did at age 4.
He is a self-taught artist using techniques that probably "go against the grain" but are very eye appealing as evidenced by his popularity. He has won numerous "best-in-shows", has been featured in such publications as Southern Living and Virginia Wildlife, has been selected as "artist of the year" for a number of shows, designed labels for a micro-brewery and is widely collected over most of the country.
Bill is the Manager of Environmental Biology for Dominion Virginia Power. He has won several awards, including the Conservation Service Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1999 for leading a group that examined bird crashes into power lines. Bill's favorite part of the job is getting to work outside in the fields and streams and doing very different tasks on different days. Bill also makes numerous presentations to schools and civic groups to educate people about Dominion's environmental involvement.
