Virginia Fly Fishing Festival visitors are in store for a real
treat. Our unique event strives to provide a family-friendly
environment where everyone can just relax and have a
good time. If this is your first time coming to see us,
please know that ours is also a beginner-friendly event.
Our main goal is to introduce folks to the quiet sport of fly
fishing and help educate attendees about the importance
of good conservation. This festival is underwritten by
several sponsors including the City of Waynesboro and
is further supported by raffle sales and donations. Half of
all net profits go into restoration work on the South River,
a stream devastated by industrial pollution, and to other
projects across the state of Virginia. The remainder
of the funds are used to promote the following year’s event.
Above are links to items which should help you plan your trip
to Waynesboro. Have a question that we haven’t answered?
Please contact us by phone or email. We look forward to
seeing you at the festival.
Where is the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival located?
The festival is held each April on the banks of the South River in Waynesboro, Virginia, just off interstate 64, about 25 minutes west of Charlottesville. Most of our vendors are contained in a large circus tent, though other vendors, such as the wineries, and our sponsors may have their own tents. All vendors and activities are within walking distance.
What is the cost of admission, and what does my admission fee cover?
Admission is $12 for adults; children 16 and under are free with a paying adult. The admission fee covers all lectures (held throughout the day on a variety of topics from trout fishing in the Shenandoah National Park to catching stripers on the Chesapeake Bay) as well as wine tasting for those 21 and older. Each attendee will also receive a festival bag to keep track of all the vendor brochures you pick up and a free collectible wine glass to remember your day.
Need A Fishing License?
If you want to start your fishing season off with a bang make plans now to attend the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival. Anglers can put their newly acquired skills to work right away catching rainbow, browns and the occasional smallmouth bass. All fishing at the festival is strictly catch and release as the South River is a delayed harvest stream meaning trout can't be taken from the river until after May 1st and prior to September 1st. There will be plenty of folks on hand to get you pointed in the right direction. You will need a Virginia fishing license even though you are fishing in town. A Virginia fishing license can be obtained on line by going to:
